Janice Weekes
is the director of a church-based after
school program which is located at Christ
Tabernacle Apostolic Church in the Webster
Square area of Worcester. The Higher
Education Resource Center (HERC) works with
African American and Latino students
providing them with academic support and
college preparatory advising. The center
offers SAT prep classes, tutoring, college
fairs, college tours, book clubs, and
assistance with completing college
admissions and financial aid forms. HERC
offers a number of programs including the
MASTER program, which is a collaboration
with WPI. MASTER is an acronym for Math and
Science Technology Education Resource.
Students who are interested in these fields
work with WPI students of color during the
school year. The Passport Program admits
students at the beginning of their junior
year as part of a cohort, and they remain in
the program until graduation from high
school. The program is designed for
students who have a desire to attend college
but for whom entering a college seems
impossible. The students participate in a
curriculum-based holistic approach to help
develop the skills, motivation and
determination necessary to successfully
enter and complete college.
Janice is also
the administrator for Christ Tabernacle
Apostolic Church, which is involved with
several Outreach Ministries including its
annual Community Day held each September in
Crystal Park across from Clark University.
During this event there are free health
screenings, eye exams, children’s
activities, music, and plenty of free food.
Janice has a
Bachelors Degree in Business Management from
Bentley College, and a MBA from Suffolk
University. She worked as a supervising
internal auditor for the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts’ Department of Revenue, and as
a Financial Analyst for Prudential Insurance
Company and Verizon.
Ms. Weekes is
married to Pastor Walter Weekes, Sr. and
together they have a daughter, Ryan and a
son Walter, Jr.
